Grand Valley’s National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) team finished ninth in the national yesterday at a semi-final presentation.
The team had previously placed first in the district competition, which gave them the chance to compete to go on to the national competition in Las Vegas. However, only the top 8 teams get to advance.
“I was told by one judge that we were very close to the 8th place finisher, so that’s a little disappointing,” said Assistant Professor Roy Winegar, who is retired now that the NSAC competition is complete. He and Assistant Professor Robin Spring were both coaches of the team this year.
“But, as I told the students, this is the highest a GVSU team has every finished in national competition,” Winegar added. “And, while our finish was not enough to go on to nationals, we were 9th our of a field of more than 200 teams, so it is a great accomplishment for our students and a validation of the quality of the Advertising and Public Relations program.”
The NSAC team was 10th nationally 2013.
