The 6th Annual Padnos/Sarosik Civil Discourse Symposium took place on November 19th this year and was titled “Civil Discourse Café: Complicated Conversations.” The event was focused around storytelling as a means of building rapport and empathy. Following talks given by storytellers with a variety of perspectives, guests were invited to engage in civil discourse at their tables.
The mission of the Padnos/Sarosik Endowed Professorship of Civil Discourse is to prepare GVSU students to participate in and cultivate educated and respectful conversations about current and critical issues in their communities.
This year, our very own Professor Jeff Kelly Lowenstein was introduced as the next Padnos/Sarosik Endowed Professor of Civil Discourse. We can’t think of anyone more deserving. Congratulations, Professor Kelly Lowenstein!
