According to an article in the Grand Rapids Business Journal, Brad Beck, a 1979 GVSU Ad/PR alumnus, has been named a shareholder for SeyferthPR. Beck currently serves as the firm’s VP of reputation management and branding.

MARISA KWIATKOWSKI VISITS GVSU AS DISTINGUISHED ALUMNA-IN-RESIDENCE

SoC journalism alumna and IndyStar investigative reporter Marisa Kwiatkowski visied GVSU on October 4-5 to be honored as the School’s Distinguished Alumna-in-Residence. She participated in several events, including:

What is Investigative Journalism? Thursday, October 4, 3:00-4:00 p.m., D-1-129 MAK. This session is aimed at students and others interested in learning more about the field of investigative journalism.

Meet & Greet / Reception. Thursday, October 4, 4:30-5:30 p.m., 271 LSH.

Investigative Reporting and the #MeToo Movement. Friday, October 5, 3:00-4:30 p.m., 2270 Kirkhof Center. Co-sponsored by the Gayle R. Davis Center for Women and Gender Equity, and moderated by GVSU multimedia journalism student Allison Donahue, this event focused on Marisa’s role as an advocate for survivors of sexual assault, including her work in breaking the Larry Nassar story.

SOC ALUMNI WIN ATHENA AWARDS

School of Communications alumni swept the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce’s ATHENA awards, with Jennifer Maxson ’94 winning the ATHENA Leadership Award and Lauren McElrath ’12 winning the ATHENA Young Professional Award. SOC BROADCASTING ALUMNA RECEIVES DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD

Angie Crouch ’88, an Emmy award winning journalist and GVSU broadcasting alumna has been selected to receive the GVSU Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award. The award will be presented at the April commencement ceremony. You can read more at this link.

SOC ALUMNI APPOINTED TO KEY GOVERNMENT POSITIONS

Lindsay Ryan (formerly Lindsay Schachtner), a 2010 GVSU alumna with majors in communication studies and political science, has been hired by Congressman John Moolenaar (R, MI 4th district) as his Chief of Staff. For more information, see the official press release.
