Jeff Kelly Lowenstein (with Daniel Simmons-Ritchie and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism) won a second-place award in the 2018 National Headliner Awards for their series “Defying the Odds” on PennLive.

JEFF KELLY LOWENSTEIN AWARDED MCGRAW FELLOWSHIP

Jeff Kelly Lowenstein was awarded a McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism to “investigate the racial impact of foreclosure within federally-backed mortgage programs designed to keep seniors in their homes.” The project is joint work with USA Today reporter Nick Penzenstadler, and several GVSU students will contribute to it. JEFF KELLY LOWENSTEIN TO BE FEATURED ON ACADEMIC MINUTE

Jeff Kelly Lowenstein was one of five GVSU faculty members selected to represent GVSU on an upcoming episode of the Academic Minute podcast. The Academic Minute is produced by the Association of American Colleges & Universities. It features faculty research and keeps listeners informed about what’s new and exciting in the academy.

JEFF KELLY LOWENSTEIN INVOLVED IN OSF GRANT

Jeff Kelly Lowenstein is part of an international group of journalists, educators, and students and was recently awarded a $45,000 grant from the Open Society Foundation to disseminate the results of the recent global lottery investigation and to begin a new project investigating human impact on the world’s water supply.

JEFF KELLY LOWENSTEIN WINS AWARD FOR GLOBAL LOTTERY PROJECT

Jeff Kelly Lowenstein was part of a team that won a Vodacom Journalist of the Year Award for the Western Cape Region. Jeff and his colleagues took top honors in the data category for their “Gaming the Lottery” project. According to the citation, the project “combined skillful story-telling, in-depth analysis, deep insight, and enterprising journalism to uncover a story with both local and global implications, in the process setting a benchmark for media coverage of allocation of funding of any kind.” You can visit Vodacom’s website for the full citation.
