GVSU Theatre Students Travel for Stratford Shakespeare Festival

On October 11th twenty two Grand Valley theatre students along with Professors Bell and Libman attended the Stratford Shakespeare Festival to see the production of The Beaux’ Stratagem. This production is a restored comedy, which coincides with Professor Bell’s class on Restoration Comedy Dramaturgy.

Most of the students that attended were in Professor Bell’s class and were excited to see a restoration comedy performed by a professional company like the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. This was also an exciting opportunity because there will be an upcoming production of Restoration Comedy in April. Professor Bell gave some insight into what the play will entail.

Restoration Comedy is an adaptation of two Restoration period comedies including Loves Last Shift and The Relapse,” said Bell.

Bell described students who were able to witness the production.

“The Grand Valley Theatre students were an exemplary and enthusiastic audience,” said Bell.
