Grand Valley pair launches transmedia series

FLYBAs Thanksgiving draws closer, a new online show takes a look at the lives of pilgrims around the Grand Rapids area. Associate Professor of Film and Video, Kim Roberts and her husband, Alan Headbloom, an applied linguist and cross-cultural consultant, created “Feel Like You Belong.” Roberts began developing the program last year as part of her research project on transmedia. Transmedia is the practice of telling stories across multiple outlets such as Internet and film.

This talk show is produced in West Michigan and introduces people who came to the U.S. for better lives. The show takes their stories away from the controversial headlines and discusses their real life experiences. “Feel Like You Belong” features one-on-one interviews with guests such as Bryan Pena, a Cuban-born catcher for the Detroit Tigers.

Cathy Runyon of MLive recently sat down with the pair to learn more about their story. Catch the show 8:30 p.m. on Mondays and 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays on WKTV channel 25 (Comcast) and channel 99 (ATT). The series and more information is also available online.
