Speech Lab seeing success in Knowledge Market

knowledge_market-001The Speech Lab is up and running in the Knowledge Market of the Mary Idema Pew Library, located on the first floor in the Learning and Information Commons. Speech Lab, Writing Center, and Peer research consultants are available Sunday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to midnight.

The Speech Lab offers undergraduate students one-on-one tutoring with an experienced consultant for every step in the speech or presentation process. Consultants can assist with developing an idea, organizing thoughts, and performance skills.

The Speech Lab has worked with not only COM 201 Speech students but also students from courses in photography, exercise science, the Honors College, and history. Director of the Speech Lab, Dr. Danielle Leek, Associate Professor in the School of Communications, has been developing the Speech Lab since the Winter of 2011.

“The Speech Lab has been incredibly successful in the Knowledge Market,” Leek said. “Our clients feel more confident about their presentation after they work with a consultant. The goal is to have students begin using the Lab for other classes and events; not just Speech.”
