In memory of Frederick A. Chapman, who taught Advertising and Public Relations until 2001, the School of Communications has established the Frederick A. Chapman Endowed Memorial Public Relations Scholarship. The award was proposed and funded by friends, family, and colleagues of Chapman. Others may contribute to the fund online at http://www.gvsu.edu/give/
This scholarship was created to assist students pursuing a career in public relations who demonstrate a commitment to community service. Chapman served in the Air Force during the Korean War, worked as a public relations executive, and taught at Grand Valley State University for ten years after his retirement. He had a passion for community and held many positions at the local and state level.
Candidates for this scholarship will be required to complete all necessary forms provided by the SoC and Financial Aid Office. In addition, they will be asked to submit an essay that outlines their career goals in Public Relations and their commitment to community service.
Awards from the Chapman Public Relations Scholarship will be given once the fund has reached $20,000.
